A Dancer's Body Is Different! dance physical therapy is too!

Dr. Simmons is excited to resume working with Neurotour to provide physical therapy services to the shows traveling through Hippodrome in Baltimore, MD.

We specialize in providing dance physical therapy and working with dancers to meet their unique needs, time requirements, and special considerations.  Located in Severna Park, MD, Dr.  Ashley Simmons has an extensive professional dance career prior to becoming a physical therapist.  With this direct knowledge and experience of the grueling rehearsals and stress that a dancer puts on their body, Dr. Simmons specializes in dancer rehabilitation.

Dr. Simmons understands the desire to get the dancer back on their feet as soon as possible, within reason, for the specific injury.  Having had multiple injuries herself, she also understands the psychological impact an injury has on the dancer's mind, body, and soul.  She has had to sit out of ballet class due to an injury far too many times.  This is why she travels throughout the state educating teachers, dancers, and young students at local dance studios on injury prevention, muscle health, and proper nutrition to avoid those devastating injuries.  Multiple services are offered by Dr. Simmons to help dancers learn to dance smart, so they can dance long!

Specialized Dance Physical Therapy Services for Dancer Rehabilitation

  • Dance Specific Physical Therapy: an evaluation of a dance related injury will be performed with a treatment program focused on return to dance.
  • Injury Prevention Seminars: Education on injuries, prevention, muscle health, unavoidable factors, and nutrition performed at the dance studio.
  • Injury Screenings:  predetermined time arranged by studio owners or company directors, for dancers to receive a 15 minute screen from the therapist, performed in the studio.
  • Dance Assessment: Conducted in the clinic to assess flexibility or other  concerns that may arise from being a competitive or professional dancer, often done to avoid injury.
