Physical therapy for seniors is important to regaining mobility. Whether you are recovering from a major surgery, looking for improvement in your overall strength and flexibility, or recovering from a major surgery, we can help! Our specialty services for seniors are typically covered by most medical plans.
Osteoporosis and low bone mass effects the daily lives of 54% of older Americans (all genders), according to a 2016 article by the NIH. One of the largest concerns facing this population is the risk of fracture, especially after a fall. Research has consistently shown benefits of weight bearing exercise for those with osteoporosis. Whether these benefits are due to positive changes in bone density, increased strength, or improved balance, it is important to perform daily weight bearing physical activity for not just osteoporosis, but overall health. Skilled physical therapy can help to identify areas of weakness and pinpoint balance deficits which will help to reduce the risk of falls and improve overall quality of life.
Falls are the major cause of injuries to seniors with over 32,000 deaths per year attributed to falls. We develop an individualized fall prevention program for core and lower extremity strength, balance, and endurance.
Many major surgeries or chronic illnesses benefit from physical therapy. Are you having a hip, shoulder, or knee replacement? Physical therapy programs can help you recover and regain your independence. Our specialized programs are necessary to maximize gains. We encourage all our patients not to "settle" for a new normal, and help them to reach their maximum potential. Come see us in Severna Park, MD!
